Summary: Great TV-lousy remote
Comment: There are plenty of reviews that will praise the picture quality, and I would concur, but oh that remote. It's shaped so it's slightly tapered on the front and back so your guaranteed to have to look down to see which way it's orientated. While it is flat on top, it's half round and slippery on the bottom, and is akin to holding a wet bar of round soap. Nice design Samsung, someone on the design team isn't firing on all cylinders. The numbered channel buttons are also on the top of the remote so your forced to hold on with one hand and push the buttons with your other hand. It's not near as easy as being able to hold on to the remote with one hand and change channels with your thumb as with a properly designed remote.

Summary: Can't beat it
Comment: We had been looking around for a 32" for our breakfast area. We had seen some really good reviews on the Sony KDL 32 4000. At a few sites it was $498, sold out quickly and then they raised the price to $598. We were in Fry's 2 days before Christmas and saw the Samsung 32A450. It was $498 and it had a better picture than all of the tv's displayed in the same category. We purchased it and we are very pleased. It is a sleek looking, great t.v. with a beautiful picture. We already owned a Samsung 46" that we have had for 3 years that we purchased through Amazon. Amazon is the greatest for ordering anything and great on returns also. We knew the Samsung was a good t.v. so we had no 2nd thoughts about purchasing it. When I got home, I went to this site and I am so pleased with the other reviewers comments. You can't go wrong with this t.v. at this price.

One nice feature is that it has side imputs as well as rear. Most t.v.'s the imputs are in the rear. It has 3 HDMi imputs and also a PC imput. It was a snap to set up. This LCD actually gets a sharper picture than the 46" 1080i Samsung DLP that we purchased 3 years ago. Perfect for a small to medium size room.

Summary: good picture but beware of severe audio problems
Comment: I bought this TV 4 weeks ago after a good bit of research. Thought I had made a good purchase as the picture quality was good to my eyes and Samsung has a good reputation for LCD TVs.

TV is hooked directly to coaxial cable (no box)as we receive a few local HD stations through our regular cable and the rest of the standard def stations also looked good on this TV. Started having severe audio problems (sounds like a robot) on the HD stations after two weeks.

After reading some info on CNET and AVS forums I've now found that this is a problem that anyone who gets cable without a cable box or uses over the air signals WILL experience. Samsung has been aware since at least September '08 (if not earlier) from what I can tell but has offered no solution.

If you don't use a cable box for your cable, you will experience the same problem. This problem defintely affects all sizes of the A450 series TVs and perhaps other Samsung LCD TVs.

Samsung really needs to address this well identified problem. Unfortunately, I'm not holding my breath for a fix to this problem, since Samsung has not addressed to date, even with many calls from owners (including me)over the past 4 months.

It's defintely turned me off on the Samsung "name". Hope this helps you in your research.

Summary: Might have multiple manufactors for this model's lcd panel (not all are good)
Comment: Local Frys had the ln32a450 and a panasonic tc-32lx85. I noticed on the sammy the test video (in-door football) had spotty movement when watching the one player in green run back the ball for a td, the panny did not have any stops in movement and looked very fluid. I thought, what the? I then found somewhere on the web (maybe on amazon?) that there are multiple panels made for the sammy. I'm beginning to believe this true. The thing I read mentioned the good sammy are marked with a S on some code and the cheaper screens have an A or some other character (N?). So be carefull, not all ln32a450 may have the same high quality panels but I think all panasonics do have just good panels.

Summary: Very pleased
Comment: We were pleasantly surprised by the purchase. The driving factor was quality plus low price. We weren't sure this was going to work, but it was the best shot out there in our budget and what we were looking for: No glare, living room setting, easy to use.

And it worked like a charm. The resolution is great. The HD is perfect. The WII works great, the DVD works great and Cable works great. I was able to hook up the Onkyo HT-S5100 7.1 Channel Home Entertainment System (Set of Nine, Black) and everything is seamless. My only regret is that I wish the Onkyo was wireless. That would have been the ultimate look for our living room. Oh, well.

There is no intereference from the Belkin N Wireless Router (F5D8233-4), even with the game system. No fuzzy lines, no lost signal. Very nice.

Anyway, I am completely satisfied with this purchase and was impressed at it's very high score with Consumer Reports. (Same with the Onkyo, it scored a number 1 on their list for home theatre systems and it certainly lives up to the hype).

Why are HDTV screens wider than regular TV screens?
For decades, our TV screens have been slightly wider than they are tall; specifically, their ratio of width to height is 4 to 3, known as a 4:3 aspect ratio. Most HDTV screens, on the other hand, have an aspect ratio of 16:9, the same as many movie screens. That means television shows shot in wide-screen will look more cinematic, and many movies will fit on an HDTV screen without letterboxing (horizontal black bars at the top and bottom of the screen). There are exceptions, namely ultrawide "scope" movies such as Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, which still have letterbox bars on a wide-screen TV. Remember that not all HD programming is wide-screen, and when viewing either standard or high-def 4:3 programming on a wide-screen HDTV, you may get the opposite effect: vertical black bars on the left and right of the screen.
